Java Applications for the WWW & Desktop
These are simple Java applications that can either be run as applets within a browser or as stand-alone desktop applications, initially launched from a browser. They are essentially working prototypes. Work on them is on going and suggestions as to how the may be extended / improved are welcome
- Computer Science Quotes:An applet that displays the logos of my previous employers, and a Computer Science quote. This applet ran from my home page at that time, and was meant to motivate the first and second year Computer Science students that I taught. Click here to view the applet in action. Reload the page to see another quote.
- Desktop Clock/Album - Version 1:An applet that displays a clock with one of the logos of my previous employers in the background. Click here to view the applet in action. This applet was originally developed as an extension to a stopwatch application that was developed for a second level Object Oriented Programming practical class. It will shortly be redeveloped to display a sequence of background images, functioning much the same as modern digital photograph frames.
- Desktop Clock/Album - Version 2:Click here to run the most recent release of the Desktop Clock/Album applet run as a stand-alone application from a browser using Java Web Services (JWS) based on Java's Network Launching Protocol (JNLP)). It should also be possible to install a shortcut on the desktop.
- PICPMB Webcam Image:An applet that retrieves the webcam image displayed on the PICPMB web site. Click here to view the applet in action and learn more about the webcam.
