The Unit Edith and I live in is located in Protea Gardens, a Complex located on the right hand side of the Currys Post Road just as it leaves ton.
If you visit my Allo Allo Gardens home page you find a link to my Ambient Weather Station on that page. You will also find a web camera image there. The camera faces in an easterly direction taking in the view across the Amber Valley in the direction of Hilton College.
Howick is located right at the heart of one of South Africa’s most vital forestry hubs. When the trees are harvested and shipped, it is only the Pine and Blue Gum tree truncks that leave. The branches and leaves remain and are gathered into heaps. Before the next ctop of threes is planted the heaps of leaves and branches will have been burnt.
Burning Fire Breaks is also big business in our area, both for the local Farmers, and the Forrestry Industry. SO!!! Howick can be a SMOKEY Place and that is why a purchased a Particulate Matter Detector or my Weather Station!!!
The uMngeni Landfill Site is located less than a kilometer futher up the Currys Post Road. It lies west of North West of Protea Gardens, a direction that is favoured, amonst a couple of others, by the wind.
So, if you look at the graphs on this page, you should be able to see that for the time period shown, the wind setttles down, and blows from the West. The size of the Particulte Matter detected also increases. That said, we also know that 'One swallow does not a summer make!'
