An Extraordinary Day
The Weather, the WWW and my Bicyfall
13 September 2025
Pincushion Protea

I will start with my bicycle (33kg eMTB). As we usually do on a Saturday morning, Edith and I set out for a Saturday morning ride. I started by riding into the back of Edith' where the Protea Gardens (our complex - CP) driveway meets The Currys Post Road. Thanks to my helmet that protected my head as it hit the tar, it was not a bad fall. We sallied forth, heading up The Currys Post Road TCPR). Our route took us along the Shafton Road to the Karkloof Tar Road (KKT) and then to the end of the tar.

On the outward leg we stopped thrice. Once for my fall, once to remove a Bee/Wasp/? sting from my lower lip, and once to accomodate Edith taking a photograph of a flower growing on the side of the road. At the end of the KKT we stopped for a drink. We returned via the KKT, Middle Road (through the SAPPI plantations, and the TCPR to CP and home. There was one stop for Edith to photograph another roadside flower.

Back at home I sat down in front of my Ambient Weather station console in order to get it to once again send our weather station's status to the WWW. When I first bought the weather station I was amazed a how easily, and speedily my son-in-law Andrew Sheard, and his son Ryan, set it all up.

Some background: Not long after we moved into PG three and three quarters of a year ago, we were connected to the Metrofibre link that provides fibre access to the WWW within PG. Our Internet Service Provider is WebAfrica. We have mostly not had problems with our connection to the WWW. More recently this has changed as the Municipality is replacing water pipes in our area, and the contractor occasionally severs the fibre cable.

Our son Bruce also suspected our router, and so it was recently replaced. However doing that also required all the devices we have that rely on access to the Internet, to migrate to the new server. Some of them required help, and Bruce did what was required to move most of them across to the new router.

Today I sat down to relinked the remaining problematic device, the weather station console. Again with Andrew's help (from a distance), I got that done.

All is well that ends well!
