Massey-Ferguson Tractor
Saves WentWorth from Flooding

Several years ago (Post Retirement) Edith and I spent four days cruising in a House Boat on the Murray River in Australia. Edith's sister, Blanche and their cousin Charles and his wife were with us. The House Boat was based at Echuca, Victoria, Australia.

After the cruise we took to the road and followed the Murray River to Adelaide. On route we passed through Wentworth. Charles, a farmer, and a Massey Ferguson Tractor fanatic, probably travelled from Brisbane to join us, because he knew we would be passing through Wentworth. Wentworth is a town that had previously been saved from a flooding Murray river by the local farmers and their Massey Ferguson tractors. The farmers all came to town on their Massey Fergusons to build dykes These dykes succesfully held back the the water when the Murray River's flood waters reached Wentworh. The people of the town have not forgotten that.

The dismantled tractor that also features in this blog, belongs to Silver Hill Farm School in the Kamberg Region of KwaZulu-Natal. My grandson works on the farm, and Charles was delighted to hear that my grandson, whom he has previously met, is pottering around the farm on a Massey Ferguson tractor.

The tractor that features in the second row belongs to, "Guess Who". Needless to say the tractor is a Massey Ferguson. The photographs were taken by Andrew while he and his family were visiting Charlie and his wife somewhere near Brisbane ten or so years ago.
