Getting ready for a cycle ride is a fairly demanding process. Obviously you need to dress for the occasion. I get dressed to work in the garden and then change my shirt, and done gloves and a helmet. A yellow PPA shirt is preferred.
As most of our rides start at 7:00 AM, we need to get an early breakfast, and move the dog baskets from the Porch to the Court Yard.The bike tyre pressures needs to be checked and the chains need to be lubed, The bikes also have to be moved from the garage where they are stored.
Most of our rides start with the riders meeting at the Protea Gardens Gate. All we have to do to get there is duck up the hill and shoot trough the gate. We are seldom more than a minute late. After greetings and the exchange of pleasantries it is Tally Ho and coffee at the Terbodore.
The ride starts with a climb past the base of the XXX Conservancy hill, the Howick Refuse Dump and the Cemetery. Given the rush to get ready and on our way, it is along this section of the ride that I realize that I have not started my Garmin Forerunner 35 in order to record my ride.
Recently it occurred to me that it would be great if I could tell my Garmin to prefix my ride with the missing segment before saving it. Given that the Garmin app on the watch knows that I have started my recording not that far from home, it could simply find another ride that does contain that data, and then plug it in at the beginning of the ride I am saving.
But wait, there is more. Sometimes I forget to terminate the recording when I arrive at home. I have hear the dogs greet me and am keen to unlock the back door, let them in and greet them. It is often only when I sit down for a second cup of coffee that I realize that I need to save my ride. Given that the Garmin app knows that I have already been at home for 15 minutes, it is more than happy to ask me if I would like to chop that last fifteen minutes of the recording. Of course I would.
So what are we waiting for? Get busy Garmin!
Interestingly enough, Strava does the chop the wandering around our home tail when I upload my ride to that account from my Garmin account.
Finally another suggestion. It would be useful if rides could be prefixed with the road and direction taken by a rider at the start of his/her ride. That would make finding the prefix segment for the required prefix that much easier. The data would of course not be visible when viewing a ride.
