'Allo 'Allo Gardens ! (AAG) Howick (uMngeni) AAG Blog My wife Her Bicycle Buddy & Her Bicycle Buddy's Dad 2 March 2024 Popup images best viewed using a PC/Laptop |
Not long after meeting my wife Edith, I met her best friend, Harriet. Subsequently I met Harriet's Mum, Jo and her Dad, Bob. Bob managed the Umdoni Park Estate, a vast tract of land on the Natal South Coast. It was famous for Botha House, a government holiday home for the seriously top brass, and Lynton Hall, the home of the Reynolds Family, who owned the Estate.
It also had a superb Golf Course, a wonderful coastal swimming pool, and lots of bush paths that would have been ideal for latter day Mountain Bikers.
It was on these paths that Edith became the dare-devil cylist I now have to ride with. Catching up with her after she has hurtled down a hill here in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, often reminds me of Umdoni, and her cycling buddy, Harriet. Also Harriet's Dad, as I spent the 1972/3 Christmas holiday wandering around the United Kingdom and a bit of Europe wearing the Great Coat Bob had been given when he was demobilised at the end of the Second World War.
So, ..., this blog is dedicated to Harriet, Bob and Jo. Also to the wonderful KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, a Cycling Nirvana! The rest of the pics hopefully attest to that, and a dead-end road we ventured along for the first time during our ride this morning. The climb was serious, and the views adequate justification.
