Edith started our last day at Cathedral Peak by treating herself to a "Welless Center" treatment. I went for a walk that took me down from the hotel and out along the dirt road to the Trout Hatchery and Dam. For the first time I carried my dated Canon Camera with the intention of taking photographs of some distant scenes/objects that would benifit from the camera's 30X Optical Zoom.

My primary objectives were a better shot of the valley with the Escarpment (Drakensberg or Berg) in the distance, Baboon Rock and the Bell. The Escarpment for my brother-in-law, William, and the Baboon Rock because it was at the height of what is known as, "The Little Berg".

William and his wife, Waveney have always been keen Mountaineers, and William has climbed most of the Berg Peaks. Hea has also done several traverses. I know he has crossed from the Buttress on the left to the Cathedral (Dome/Steeple) on the right. Not for the faint hearted.

Edith and I have visited the berg many times and climbed the Little Berg on almost all of those occasions. When Cheryl, Bruce and Heather were at home, they also did the climbs. One or two of these climbs were rather ambitious and dare I say a little risky. Edith and I were also more able, and dare I say braver then.

In closing this ramble I have to say that I was not keen on visiting the Drakensberg again, as I knew the Little Berg was going to be out of my reach. Well in the end I did get here, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Hotel was excellent, and the food proposterous. The variety and the amounts boggled the mind, and it took me more than a day to realise that I did not have to eat it all.

Finally I need to thank our son, Bruce, who stayed in our home while we were away, and kept the dogs company. He also revamped my computer while he was here, and while that involved a deal, it still deserves a, "Thank You".

Update

1) When driving from the National Highway to a Drakensberg Resort one inevitably drives through what I would describe as rural KwaZulu-Natal. The experience inevitably leaves one concerned about the chaotic nature of the area. Then one arrives at the Hotel/Resort and the contrast leaves you feeling uncomfortable.

2) While we were at the Cathedral Peak Hotel, Edith Google'd the Hotel and Trust Land we drove through. The hotel employs 1000 people and it therefore makes a considerable contribution to the adjacemt Trust Land. She also found out that the municipalty that administers the area, was the only municipality to receive a Clean Audit during the previous assesment cycle. That is also a significant achievement. Finally I Google Earth'd the region (image included below) and found that the homesteads were laid out in a very orderly manner. Also an impressive achievement that speaks to the Clean Audit.
