Some thoughts and comments
It does zilch under a full moon on a cloudless night. It does even less on a cloudy night irrespective of what the moon is doing. It does not work that well during the day when it is cloudy. We inevitably have to look to EISHKOM for help. On a cloudless day, it likes to wait for the sun to rise above the horizon and then it gets going. Fortunately South Africa lends itself to this kind of weather. On these days we can run the dishwasher, washing machine and vacum cleaner, and the solar system will supply the power to do that, provide we run them sequentially. Doing all three keeps us busy, and the re-charging of the battery has to take a back seat. If it is a good winters day we could still end up with the battery fully charged before the sun starts to dip. If not, we have to EISHKOM it. Given that we only started running the system as winter started to set in, we are confidently hoping that the system will perform better during the summer I guess we could have gone for a system with more capacity, but as the system mostly meets our needs. Upscaling would of course mean tat we could do dish washing, clothes washing, and vacuming every day of the week and not have to stress. But who wants to do all those CHORES every day! Certainly not me. I would be cheating if I did not mention that the stove and geyser are not connected to this system. The stove is not an issue as we use a single pot nduction plate, and a single pot gas hob, to bypass the stove. The geyser mostly sits idle until we shower before going to bed. We have wrestled with installing a timer switch for the geyser, but are not yet convinced that this is neccessary. Finally we would love to make the Muncipal meter run backwards, but cannot see that happening until |
If you have any comments, corrections, suggestions or plain criticism, I would appreciate it if you would communicate the same to me.
