When I retired 15 years ago my local soninlaw Andrew lent me a used Davis Weather Station, console, and a copy of the Microsoft Windows WeatherLink weather station software. As I run Linux on my box I had to install a virtual machine to run the software under Windows. I also created my own weather web page into which I embedded the temperature etc. graphs that the software produced. When the weather station started to become a bit shakey., I bought a Davis Vantage Vue bottom of the range station and ran that for a while. It worked well enough when it was not been invaded by ants trying to turn it into an ant nest.

When the Vantage Vue started to play up, I purchased a Davis Vantage Vue Pro 2 and that is what I am currently using. However it to is starting to play up. The rain guage no longer works and I have had endless trouble with the Davis Instruments WeatherLink® USB Data Logger. Wether it will provide a link between my PC and the Vantage Vue Console on my desk is in the hands when the system starts up is in the hands of the Weather Gods. That has brought me to this point. The point at which I am going to try and build a Raspberry Pi (single board micro computer) based weather station. To do that I will start with, the Rain Guage. Once I have that up and running I will look at adding Temperature, Humidity, Ultra Violet, Infra Red, and finally Wind Direction and Speed capabilities.

To get the ball rolling I have created this page to record my reading list. As I make progress I will also record the same here together with the Python code I use to capture the weather data from the weather station in order to post it on the WWW.

If you have any comments, corrections, suggestions or plain criticism, I would appreciate it if you would communicate the same to me.
