Clarens, a dorp (little town) in the Free State that is close to the Golden Gate Highlands National Park has become a rather unique recreation/holiday destination. It offers EATING, SHOPPING and chilling in the dorp, and walks, running and cycling in the surrounding hills.

The Sheards have good friends there and they love it there. The bakery and the beer may have something to do with that. The first time Edith and I visited was to ride the Highland 100 MTB event. The next time was en route to the Karoo. We were lifting Edith's brother, William and his wife, Waveney to the Karoo. We stayed in an amazing BnB called, "The Ou Klip Huis". The interior was exquisite and the garden magnificent.

The third time was recently with Bruce and our grand Daughter Ingrid, and we also stayed in "The Ou Klip Huis". The Sheards were also in Clarens in another BNB. It has been a very wet summer and it was no different in Clarens. Fortunately the Weather Gods were kind to us and we all had a great time.
